Barcelona: Montserrat and the Cavas trail
This tour takes you to one of the most sacred places in Catalonia: the Monastery of Montserrat. Leaving Barcelona at 9am, we will drive straight to Montserrat, just under an hour away from Barcelona. There you can choose from various options such as visiting the Sanctuary where the Moreneta is housed, which has been used by pilgrims and other visitors for over 1,000 years. On weekdays at 1pm you can also get to enjoy hearing one of Europe’s oldest children’s choir, La Escolina de Montserrat. Besides all the cultural possibilities there are also many paths you can take to explore more of the mountain, each offering a different perspective of the stunning views over the surrounding landscape, peppered with small chapels and hermitages. Towards the afternoon the tour moves on direction Sant Sadurní d’Anoia, the Cava capital of Spain located in the Penedes wine region, where you’ll visit some of the biggest underground wine cellars in Europe whereupon, after a demonstration on how sparkling wine is produced, you’ll of course get to sample the product the Catalan people are so passionate about. By the end of the afternoon/early evening you will head back to Barcelona, arriving at approximately 7pm.
